He roared in fury.

The glowing Hellfire dimmed, my green fire swirling around it.

“Fuck,” I grunted, as he tried to tug the sword free, the assault against my magic making my bones rattle.

I gritted my teeth and pulled harder, employing everything at my disposal. My magic and Lucian’s potent Ancient energy.

I choked as it coursed through me with the brutality of a violent tidal wave consuming everything in its path. Talk about a fucking rush.

It took everything I had to wield it and maintain the steady stream at the sword.

Lucian collapsed to his knees with a hefty thud, somehow still managing to maintain his hold on my hand.

Forcing down my concern and keeping myself centered, I thrust my palm forward with one last burst of effort.

The gem's Hellfire went out completely.

The dozens of fires roaring around us faded into oblivion, as though they’d never erupted.

And then something astounding happened.

I watched the sword heat, turning molten, looking red-hot to the touch. It traveled from the tip of the blade all the way down to its hilt.

Draco cursed as it seared his skin.

It flared bright-white, its vibrancy escalating rapidly, until an explosion shot forth from the gem, tearing it from Draco’s grip.

“You will suffer for this insolence!” he thundered.

The distraction of his emotional reaction had Mia using it to her advantage.

She pulled her magic back and lunged for his sword that had fallen barely a foot from her.

“Mia, no! Let’s go! Now!” I called.

We were in no state to defeat the monster right now.

Lucian was on his knees severely drained.

I wasn’t much better off, because channeling such potent power so rapidly took its toll.

And I knew she had to be majorly weakened too after holding Draco at bay for so long.

“Mia!” I yelled as I watched her snatch up the sword instead of heeding my words.

“Only an Immortal can wield that sword,” Lucian choked out.

Shit.

What the hell was she playing at?

Risking exposure, attempting to take on Draco alone, when not only had we not formed the Covenant, but we were also all severely compromised?

That was it!

Letting go of Lucian, I stepped forward and fired my magic at her, my green smoke beginning to encircle her, to teleport her out of here by force, seeing as though she was clearly beyond reason.

I stumbled from the effort.
