“I was wondering…” He trailed off.

“Wondering what?” I murmured against my pillow.

“I was wondering if last night really happened,” he whispered, pulling me from my pillow so that I lay on my back with him leaning over me.

“Really? What happened last night?” I whispered.

Kai peppered my face with kisses. “I asked the love of my life to be my wife, and she said, ‘Yes.’”

I couldn’t help giggling again. “I had that same dream, you know.”

“It was the craziest dream,” he continued. “I proposed, but then she ate the ring I gave her.”

I giggled again, remembering that he had proposed with a ring pop which I ate on the way home from Bradley’s. “It was so sweet though,” I attempted to justify myself.

“Well, we have a problem then,” he whispered seriously, looking down at the plastic ring still on my finger.

I was curious to see where he was going with this so I asked. “Oh yeah? Are you angry that I ate up all your sweet words?”

Kai shook his head. “Nope. That’s not it,” he chuckled.

“Did you want me to savor it longer than one night?” I asked suggestively.

Kai chuckled again. “Yes, but not for the same reasons. I guess I have no choice but to give you something you won’t eat, huh?” He asked as he held up a sparkling black diamond ring surrounded by small white ones.

“I bought this because it reminded me of us more than any other ring. Most people think a black diamond would be a bad choice for an engagement ring, but I think it best fits where we have been in life,” he explained as he pulled the plastic ring from my finger.

I felt my eyes burning, hearing these words come from him. That he accepted me with all of my demons, my past, my baggage….

“See, we’ve each traveled dark roads to get here. It made us who we are, for sure, and I think we are both stronger for it,” he whispered, sliding the diamonds onto my finger. “Finding you again has been a light at the end of the tunnel for me, Katie. No matter how dark things were before, you have lightened my life.”

The tears brimming my eyes cascaded down my cheeks. “I love you,” I whispered hoarsely.

Kai kissed me sweetly. There was nothing sexual or needy in this kiss, but it made my heart stutter nonetheless. This was my love language. Kai was showing me how much he adored me through his actions. He gave me a place to feel safe, a home to stay rooted, and love to help me through my dark days.

“I love you so much, my heart hurts,” I choked between tears.

Kai chuckled and pulled me onto his chest. “I love you, too, Kitkat. More than words can describe.”

We were in bed or cuddled on the couch the whole morning talking about nonsense. It still surprised me that we could talk for so long without becoming bored or running out of topics to discuss. Just before noon our phones began to ping with messages from our families. Since we were out on New Year’s eve with friends, we agreed to visit our folks on New Year’s day.

“Do our parents know?” I asked, coming out of the shower.

Kai was already half dressed in a pair of jeans. My face flushed seeing him standing there smiling at me while he brushed his teeth. I had to make him get out of the shower after he pinned me against the wall and had me screaming through two orgasms. My legs felt like jelly already, and he would have kept going if I hadn’t made him leave.

“No. I only told our friends,” he said, rinsing his mouth.

I tried to slip past him, but he pulled me back and trailed kisses down my neck again. It sent goose bumps down my arms, and had my core tightening up.

Don’t fall for it! We have plans! My responsible side screamed in my head.

I wiggled and squirmed out of his grasp, losing my towel in the process. “No! We are already late!” I yelled, laughing as I ran to find my own clothes.

I didn’t make it far before Kai had me bent over the bed and was lighting my body on fire all over again. It should be illegal to feel that good. Every. Single. Time.

“I can’t move,” I whined laying across the bed after. He had properly rocked my world, and there was no more energy left in my body. This only made his smile bigger, proud that he had fucked the energy right out of me.

“It’s not funny,” I whined, though I couldn’t stop giggling and smiling as well.
