“Yeah, I got it,” I replied in a small voice.

“You’re lucky I love you so much,” Ally said in a teasing tone.

I swung the door open and looked at her with a curious expression on my face. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

“If I didn’t love you so much, I would have thrown his ass into your office and made the two of you talk it out.” Ally’s hands were on her hips, chin jutted out in defiance.

“Well, I appreciate that you still love me and refuse to do that.”

“Uh-huh. It’s what needs to be done.”

“I’ve got work to get back to,” I told her, moving to sit behind my desk.

Ally returned to hers while I tried to decide how I should handle my next conversation with Terry: in the dark or out in the open. I sighed. No time to worry about that now. I had work to do.
