“College?” I repeated. “Which one did you get into?”
“You mean, you don’t know?” she sassed before going back to eating.
“If I could hack into your shit without getting caught, then I would,” I fired back. “However, I’m not that good just yet.”
After a few seconds of silence, she said, “I’m not going to college.”
“Yeah, right,” I scoffed.
Her hazel eyes lifted my way. “I’m not.”
When I realized that she was serious, I asked, “Why not?”
“That’s none of your business,” she answered, though I had already expected that of her.
“I can’t begin to tell you how wrong you are again, Jett,” I guffawed.
“If anyone has things backwards in this scenario, it’s you,” she argued.
Ignoring her, I went back to eating my meal, wondering what she was up to. There was no way that she hadn’t gotten offers if she applied. Plus, money wasn’t an issue for her, so it wasn’t a matter of tuition. There was something going on with Jett, and I just needed to find out what it was.
When Michelle came back with our check, I grabbed it before Jett could, then I threw a hundred on the table to cover it. For once in her life, Jett didn’t argue with me, and that was a win in my book.
Chapter 8
Jett~
Watching Chasin toss a hundred-dollar bill on the table had given me some serious issues, but it hadn’t been a battle that I’d wanted to fight in front of an entire diner. Besides, Michelle was a godsend, so even though she didn’t need the money, appreciation was always a nice addition to someone’s day.
As Chasin turned left at the stoplight to head towards Carver Hills, I started shaking my head. “Where are you going?”
His brows furrowed as he looked over at me. “I’m taking you home.”
“I’m not ready to go home,” I blurted. “I…I usually go to the park.”
“I know,” he said. “But I figured that we could go to your place, so that I could finally meet your parents.”
I could feel my face blanch a bit. “You are not meeting my parents, Chasin.”
The asshole pulled over to the side of the road, not caring that the curb was painted yellow. “Is that right?” he asked, his voice sounding like a spider luring you into its web.
“I want to go to the park,” I stated like a child throwing a tantrum. “I’m not ready to go home.”
The fingers on Chasin’s left hand started clawing at his palm, making me wince. I wondered if he did that all the time or if I was the lucky one that brought out that tick in him. Chasin Carver didn’t seem like the type of guy that would suffer from anxiety, but I really didn’t know him well enough to know what he thought or felt. I knew that he hated me, and I knew what he felt like inside my body, and I knew that his last name could part oceans, but that was about it.
Leaning in closer to me, he said, “Well, then you’ve got a decision to make.”
“What do you mean?”
“We’re not going to the park, Jett,” he informed me. “So, I either take you home to meet your parents, or we head over to the bridge.”
I could hear blood rushing through my ears. “Blackmail is just another form of rape,” I replied, licking my lips for some moisture.
“Baby, we both know that I would never need to rape you,” he shot back, his arrogance shining through the truth. “But if you’re down for some roleplaying, I’d love to show you just who really has the upper hand in this relationship.”
This was the part that kept me up at night whenever I thought about Chasin. I wouldn’t say that I was addicted to him since I hadn’t given him much consideration when he’d been ignoring my existence, but when he wasn’t ignoring me, that was another story. Granted, I hadn’t ever slept with anyone else, but there was something in the way that Chasin took command of my body that had me never saying no to him. Ever since that first night at the bridge, it was like my body needed him, even if my brain wasn’t onboard with the madness. Chasin was all that existed when he was inside of me, and through that chaotic storm of passion was peace; a peace that I only experienced when I was with him.
My weakness must have shown on my face because he said, “I bet if I slid my hand underneath your skirt right now, you’d be soaked.”
