“He needs to prove himself to your dad.”
“No, he doesn’t.”
“It’s not for your dad’s benefit, it’s for him. He wants to be able to show your father that he can hold his own and play at the big boys table.”
“Why?” I ask utterly confused.
“You’re London Murdoch, heiress and worth a shit ton of money. He’s some random guy with nothing. He wants to prove to your dad he is worthy of his daughter and in my opinion he needs to do it because the fucker had plans to kill my niece. I would have killed him myself if I didn’t see how much he meant to you that night.”
Hearing the love in his voice warms my heart. “I didn’t think you cared, honestly,” I say with a shrug. Hurt flashes through his eyes.
“Believe it or not, karma, I have been trying for years to get you to see that I was wrong for blaming you. Every time I have tried to talk to you about it, you’d find any excuse not to be alone with me.”
Shame washes over me. “I thought you hated me,” I whisper.
“No. I hated myself for a long time, not you. Havoc gave his life for you because he fucking loved you. I have never seen my brother care for anyone as much as he did you.”
I blink a couple times and will these fucking stupid tears to fuck off, I’m not a crier. “He’s my favorite person.” He smiles and nods.
“I have a feeling someone else is coming in a close second to my brother.” He flicks his gaze toward Artemis.
“At the rate he’s going, he’s tied on my shit list with my dad.” He laughs.
“Havoc would have approved of him.” That shocks the fuck out of me.
“Why?”
“Because he was willing to die just so you could live. Havoc knew before anyone how special you truly are, that dipshit seems to have figured that out pretty quickly as well.” Hearing that come from him and knowing he doesn’t hate me feels like a weight is lifted off my soul and I can finally breathe. Years have passed and I’ve harbored so much guilt and shame over Havoc dying, and trying to hide my feelings about that day so it wouldn’t upset Chaos, but I didn’t have to. Before more can be said, Cronos comes to claim the seat beside me.
“Bestie.”
He smiles. “The next time I get on a plane it will be to travel for myself and I can’t fucking wait.”
I pout. “I’m gonna miss you!”
“You’re literally sleeping with my mirror image, you won’t miss me that much.” I laugh and nudge him with my shoulder, feeling grateful that what happened the other day hasn’t affected our friendship.
When we land in Mykonos it’s in some private airfield on a cliff that Artemis told my dad about. As we disembark I look around and frown when I don’t see any cars waiting for us. Dad marches toward the next plane with Uncle Chaos as they wait for Aunt Sin and Uncle Kacey. I hang back with Cronos. I triplets come to join us and I must say, I don’t hate them as much as I used to. I glare at Artemis’s back when he descends the steps and doesn’t even glance my way as he follows after my dad.
“I’m gonna shoot him,” I announce. The triplets chuckle while Cronos remains silent as he stares after his brother. It takes about twenty minutes for Dad to bring everyone up to speed with their plan before he comes to me with his new little tail following after him like a good dog. When Dad stops in front of me, I shoot Artemis a glare, the fucker just stares at me with a blank look. “Do you sit on command when he tells you to?”
“London, cut it out,” Dad scolds but fuck him.
“Do you shake hands like a good dog when your master tells you to?” Anger flashes in his eyes. “Or are you a naughty bitch?—”
“Cut the shit, we got people to kill tonight and unlike you, killing doesn’t come as easy to me.” Anger burns inside me at his comeback and before I can utter a single fucking word, he turns and stalks off toward Uncle Rook and Uncle Knight. I turn back to face my dad and of course he looks smug.
“Well done, Dad, you got him under your thumb and away from me. Guess my pussy wasn’t that good after all.” I don’t stick around to hear his tantrum, I head toward the cliff’s edge staring out at all the lights. I take a couple deep breaths and channel the emotions raging inside me. I focus all of the anger and hurt into revenge, by the end of the night Costa Argyros will be dead and the Greeks will be no more.
“Here.” I turn to see Aunt Sin standing there. She hands me a vest that is loaded with ammo and two guns. When I see what guns they are I snap my gaze back to her. “Your mom wanted you to use her Pit Vipers.”
“She’s never let me use them before.”
“I know, don’t lose them or she may kill the both of us.”
“Yeah, true that.”
“Here.” She hands me two blades and a strap. I strap each of them to my legs. She checks my vest to make sure it’s secure before stepping back and nodding. “You’re with me, my dad?—”
