“What?” When headlights shine toward us, the three of them turn ready to flee. Fuck, I have no doubt that’s my dad and his men and I am so going to be in shit for this. The asshole is tracking my fucking phone again!
“See you soon, goddess,” Apollo winks and says before he races after his brothers. Three cars come to a screeching halt and within seconds my dad is in front of me checking me for injury.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m okay,” I answer, annoyed at his coddling.
“What the fuck happened, London? Marco, check him for a pulse and ID,” Dad barks.
“Dad, he came out of nowhere. You can’t blame me for his stupidity, the dude ran in front of my car, like come on it’s not my fault he wanted to die!”
“Boss.” Dad darts his gaze over my head.
“What is it Marco?” Dad snaps.
“No ID but he has a brand on his neck.” At the somber tone of Marco’s voice, I turn around and find him looking panicked.
“Show me,” Dad growls as he steps around me to inspect the body. Marco tilts the guy’s head to show my dad the brand on his neck. I can’t see it clearly from where I stand and I don’t want to get closer and risk my dad focusing on me. I see the raised skin from some scarring but I can’t make out what the brand is. “Get rid of the body and clean the scene now,” Dad barks. All the men rush to do as they are told.
“Dad?” I ask, suddenly feeling the shift in his mood from anger to worry.
“Get rid of the car and scrub any video evidence. I want no witnesses?—”
“Too late,” I mutter, drawing their attention to me.
“What do you mean?” Dad clips out.
“Three guys, Apollo, Ares and Adonis, were here, they took off when they saw your lights.”
“Fuck!” he roars.
“Dad, what the hell is going on?” I shout, getting pissed off that they all know something I don’t!
“The guy you just killed was marked by the Greeks. I allowed Costa to host his hunt here as a show of goodwill because of all the trouble you are causing at Blackwood.”
I shake my head not following what he is saying. “What does that mean?” I shout.
“It means you just killed the fucking white rabbit! The Greeks are beholden to their laws, London, they will try to come for you!”
“So fucking let them come for me, I’ll run their asses down too!” I rush to say.
He shakes his head and pins me with a stern look. “You don’t understand what the fuck you have just done!” he roars.
“Don’t understand what?” I scream.
“A new headmaster has been appointed, Artemis Argyros.”
“I don’t know him,” I say.
“You’re about to. He’s the son of Costa Argyros, the leader of the Greeks. We need to meet with them now before Artemis comes for you. The school is the first place he will look and if he can’t find you, he’ll send the fucking triplets you just met after you. I’d kill them all if I could, but I can’t.”
“Dad, what’s going to happen to me?” I whisper, the fear in his eyes has me suddenly feeling like this is a huge deal and this wasn’t just some random guy I ran down.
“If I can’t work something out with Costa, you will be forced to go through a series of trials to be initiated into the God Father’s Of The Night, it’s a secret society led by Costa and his son Artemis.”
I shake my head. “No, I’ll kill them all,” I say with conviction.
“London, Artemis was trained from birth the same way me and your aunts and uncles were. To hunt, track, kill—you name it, he can do it all. There is no escaping him if he comes and we’ll wage a war against them if we have to, because I won’t allow them to take my daughter from me.”
