“There’s an opening for a hostess at the restaurant,” Lia said. “You could work next door to your sister at the flower shop.”
“That sounds perfect. Low key, no stress,” Alanah said.
Ronan kissed her temple. “First, we need to take some time to get to know each other before we rush into work.”
“I agree,” Caleb said. “You two take a few days to yourselves, and then you can start your jobs when you’re ready.”
Alanah smiled up at him. “I like that idea.”
“Me too.”
“No offense, but I’m about to turn into a pumpkin,” Taryn said. “It’s super way past my bedtime.”
“I feel like we just lived a lifetime in twenty-four hours,” Alanah said.
Ronan agreed. They said goodbye and goodnight to everyone, then headed to their suite, planning not to step foot from the room for at least three days.
He had a mate to treat like a queen and learn everything about her.
Chapter Eleven
Dredge’s car door creaked as he pulled it open to retrieve his ringing cell. The door had seen better days, having recently been the stopping point of a demon who’d tried to take his head. After denting the car with his fiery body, Dredge had managed to take out the little asshole, but now he had a damn dented car door.
Answering without looking at the screen, he said, “Yeah?”
“Dredge? It’s Alaric.”
“Hey, what’s up?”
“We’ve got an issue here and need your help.”
He hummed in surprise. The saber head of security at the hotel where he lived hadn’t ever asked him for help before. Everyone tended to think of warlocks as being evil because…they usually were. Dredge was the exception, choosing the route of goodness and light to make up for his family’s evilness.
After Alaric explained what had happened, Dredge said, “I can cast a spell, but I’m out of town and I may not make it back in time.”
“Time? What do you mean?”
“Those kinds of spells have to happen pretty quick or the aura of the people who have bad intentions will fade. It might still work, but I won’t be back to Belle Terra until tomorrow afternoon.”
“You’ll try, though?”
“Absolutely. And I can cast some extra protection spells as well, for the building.”
“That would be awesome, thanks. Safe travels.”
“See you tomorrow.”
Ending the call, Dredge set the phone back in the cup holder and removed his small notebook from the breast pocket of his overcoat. After checking off the demon removal from his to-do list, he flipped the page to see the job list. He had one more thing to do before he could return to Belle Terra, and then he’d hopefully be able to help them figure out who was being targeted and who was doing the targeting.
He didn’t like thinking someone was trying to hurt his home and the people he’d come to think of as family. Well, he didn’t know them all that well, or hardly at all. He was a loner, an introvert as modern people liked to call his personality.
But he still thought of the supernatural hotel as home, and the occupants as extended family, even if he hardly knew anyone’s name.
After putting the address for his next benevolent job into the GPS, he pulled away from the parking lot of the witch supply store and headed east.
It was going to be a long day.
