She laughed and the irritation dissipated with that sound. She even did a little dance, unaware of how her full breasts jiggled enticingly underneath the thin material of her tee shirt. “I just…liked what we did together. And I was hoping to do that again whenever you are ready for another go and…oomph!”
Ella had twirled her way towards the bathroom, but she let out a squeak of surprise when he lifted her into his arms, carrying her into the bathroom.
“I’m not that old, Ella,” he growled, laughing when she threw her arms around his shoulders, kissing his neck.
“You’re not?” she teased, nibbling on his earlobe.
Over the next few hours, in the shower and then again on her bed, he demonstrated that he wasn’t too old for another round. And because he wanted to ensure that she fully understood the lesson, he showed her again on her kitchen counter after they’d finished a large pizza before they fell into an exhausted sleep together.
Chapter 6
“What’s on your agenda today?” Ella asked as she watched Mick step out of the shower. She hugged the sheet to her nakedness, but didn’t bother to hide her fascination with his naked body.
“We got rid of the special agent in charge yesterday. He was hindering the investigation.” He reached down and grabbed his boxers and slacks, grunted slightly at their wrinkled appearance, but pulled them on anyway. “Today, we’re going to implement your idea about wearing a red dress to get information out of people that might have patronized the secret house.”
Ella beamed and leaned forward. “You are? That’s awesome!” She started to slide off of the bed, reaching for her robe, which was laying on the floor by the door, but she couldn’t quite reach it.
“So how can I help?” she demanded, sitting on the edge of the bed. She’d wait until he left before she’d get dressed. He was already pulling on his uniform shirt, so it would just be a moment.
“You can’t,” he told her firmly, picking up the robe. “You can remain safe, either here or at your coffee shop, and I want you to text me when you leave, just so that I know where you are.”
He kissed her deeply while he draped the robe around her bare shoulders. With firm but gentle hands, he pulled her to her feet and she groaned, knowing exactly where this moment was going and one hundred percent on board with his goal. Her body was sore from the number of times they’d made love over the past twenty-four hours, but she didn’t care. Mick seemed to understand and, for the past few times, he’d been incredibly gentle.
Pulling back, he looked down at her and Ella shivered, enjoying the heat in his eyes.
“What are your plans for today?” he asked, then pulled back and finished buttoning his shirt.
She sighed, feeling…cold now that he wasn’t touching her. Trying to remember her schedule, she bit her lip and concentrated. Then a moment later, she realized that she was concentrating on the disappearing skin as he buttoned up his shirt. When she lifted her eyes, Ella caught his smirk.
With a grumble of exasperation, she turned away, then remembered that she’d left her robe open and quickly pulled it closed.
“Well, today is my second day off, but I’ll probably stop by the coffee shop to make sure that Loretta is doing okay. Then I’m going over to visit Kennedi.”
“How’s she doing now that she’s married to Sean?”
Ella smiled and walked towards her dresser to pull out clothes. “She’s talking to us again.” She glanced over her shoulder at him. “She thought we rejected her because she got pregnant out of wedlock. And we thought that she’d rejected us because of the party that fateful night.” Ella shook her head. “It’s wild how miscommunication can stretch out of proportion and alter a friendship, isn’t it?”
He nodded as he used her brush to smooth down his dark hair. “I’ve seen it happen. And sometimes, that miscommunication escalates into anger and violence.” He walked over to her and kissed her forehead. “Will you have dinner with me tonight?”
She smiled, warmed by his question. “Of course,” Ella replied enthusiastically.
He looked around, then down at her. “And will you explain why you’re still sleeping in your childhood room instead of the primary suite?”
Her smile faded slightly, and she looked around, taking in the sage green walls and lemon yellow bedspread. She’d added bamboo blinds and updated the bathroom with newer colors. But the rest of the house…? Nope, it was the same.
She looked around, considering how to answer him. When she looked back up at him, she said, “Yes. We can talk about it. But right now, I know you have to get going.”
He sighed, pulling her in for a hug. “You’re right.” He looked around as well, as if searching to make sure he had everything. Then he looked down at her again. “You’re not going out in that red dress, are you?”
Ella tilted her head, grinning up at him. “What if I am?”
He growled, then pinned her against the wall. “Ella, I need you to promise me you’re not going to put yourself in danger! Please?”
She gasped, her body suddenly throbbing with need. How was this possible? How could she want him already when she’d found such intense, overwhelming satisfaction so many times over the past several hours?
“Promise me,” he growled, taking her hands and placing them on his shoulders. “I need to concentrate today and I won’t be able to do that if I am wondering if you and your friends are putting yourselves in danger.”
Were her eyeballs rolling to the back of her head? They might be. She loved the way he felt right at this moment. She wanted to climb him and beg him to do that thing with his mouth and his….!
