That’s when it hits me. Maybe it’s time to take another pregnancy test. The one I took last week was negative, but they say it can be false in the early stages.
Now, I really should take another one. I’m not sure what it’ll show, but it doesn’t hurt to try.
Setting the book down on the counter, I head to the bathroom. I grab the pregnancy test, take a deep breath, and use it. Then comes the waiting part. I set the stick down, watching the minutes crawl by, my heart pounding in my chest.
Two lines on a pink stick. There it is, clear as day.
Damn, I’m pregnant!
The realization hits me like a wave. I’m really, actually pregnant!
What does this mean? For me, for them? For this whole crazy situation I’ve found myself in? My mind races with a million questions, possibilities, fears, and is that a hint of excitement?
We’ll see how this all unfolds. I don’t plan on getting attached to this kid; that’s not part of the deal. But I can’t deny the tiny flicker of something like joy. After all the uncertainty, the waiting, it’s finally happened.
I am pregnant!
I can barely contain my excitement as I rush to the door, eager to share the news. But as I fling it open, I collide with something solid. It’s Viktor’s chest.
“Woah! What’s the hurry?” he asks.
“What? How did you get in here? I didn’t even hear a thing,” I blurt out, still holding the test behind my back.
He doesn’t even answer me. Instead, he brushes a strand of hair off my face.
“Guess what, Viktor,” I say, trying to steer the conversation back to my news.
“What is it?”
“Guess,” I urge him, but it’s clear he’s not really focusing on my words. He’s so near, his presence overwhelming, his breath warm on my face. It’s hard to think straight with him standing right there, so close to me.
Viktor’s response is swift, his voice low. “I can guess later,” he murmurs, closing the gap between us as he presses his lips against mine. The world seems to blur, his kiss sending my thoughts scattering. Between kisses, I manage a breathless, “Fine.”
Just then, there’s a knock at the door. “Come in!” I call out, pulling away from Viktor, who seems reluctant to let go, his gaze still locked on me, intense and unyielding.
It’s Ivan who steps in. “Hey. Am I interrupting something?”
“No,” I reply quickly, slipping the test into my pocket. “Actually, I have a surprise for you. Where’s Maxym?” My heart races, not just from Viktor’s kisses, but from the anticipation of sharing the news.
Ivan looks at mewith interest in his eyes. “Maxym’s just outside, dealing with some business. What’s this surprise?”
Viktor, still standing close, watches me. I take a deep breath, steadying myself.
“Give me a second. Let’s gather everyone in the living room,” I suggest.
Ivan nods, stepping back to give me space. “Alright, I’ll fetch Maxym.”
As Ivan leaves to find Maxym, Viktor’s gaze remains on me, intense and questioning. “What’s this surprise you’re talking about?”
“If you’d guessed, I’d have told you.” I smirk.
Viktor’s eyes narrow slightly, but he doesn’t press further. Instead, he offers his arm, a silent gesture of support. I take it, and together we head to the living room.
Finally, Ivan returns with Maxym, who looks curious but slightly wary. “What’s going on?” Maxym asks, his eyes scanning the room, landing on me last.
I take a deep breath, feeling their expectant stares. “I have some news,” I start, my voice steady despite the butterflies in my stomach. “I took a pregnancy test today.”
There’s a moment of silence as my words sink in. I pull out the test from my pocket, holding it up for them to see.
