“Honey, please don’t. Don’t say that to me. I loved Teagan but if that had been you... had I witnessed your execution I wouldn’t...I couldn’t bear that. Don’t give me that picture in my mind.” A tear slides down her cheek.
I brush it away with my thumb. “I’m sorry.” I kiss her sweet cherry lips.
“I know. We can’t go back. Can’t worry about what ifs. I just want to go home with you and start this new chapter of our life—together.”
“I’ll let the nurse know we’re ready.” I step out in the hall and signal the nurse. The hospital has some policy about escorting Ainsley out in a wheelchair.
My wife cradles Smith in her arms as she sits in the wheelchair. I carry out all the teddy bears and shit Uno wasn’t able to grab on his way out. My brothers kept sending shit even though I told them to knock it off. Smith is a baby. He doesn’t need a three-foot-tall bear.
Fucking ridiculous. Though I do appreciate the sentiment and that they care as much as they do. When I took this on...the new club, marrying Ainsley I wasn’t sure we would find our way, but we did.
Marrying her was the greatest risk I’ve ever taken. She thought I was all wrong for her, I’m damn glad to say I may be everything she said, but in the end I’m the perfect man for her.
We get to the entrance where I buckle my son into his car seat, and Ainsley gets in the back with him. I ride shotgun with Uno behind the wheel and a couple prospects escorting us.
The drive is quiet and uneventful thank fuck. Little man doesn’t fuss or wake up once. It’s surreal that he’s finally here.
The second we pull up at the house, Stephanie opens the front door and Petunia comes traipsing out. Ainsley exits the car to greet her, scooping her into her arms only to get pissed on.
“Might as well get used to that. Being a boy mom.” Steph laughs.
“You got the baby? I’m going to take a quick bath.” Ainsley glares at Petunia but scratches her behind the ears and accepts her slobbery apology kisses.
I give her a nod. Uno starts carrying the stuffed animals and shit in while I get Smith out. The moment I get him inside Stephanie is unbuckling him from his carrier. Ruger is asleep in his playpen.
“I put a few dinners in the freezer, but I have a lasagna in the oven. When the timer sounds you just have to get it out. I already made garlic bread. There’s premade salad bowls in the fridge. I picked up the formula and all the bottles have been sterilized.”
“Much appreciated. Ainsley and I’ll keep the kid one night so you can have a night to yourselves soon.”
“Damn straight you will.” She smirks then starts walking the baby around the house like she’s giving him a grand tour.
I take a minute to myself to thank the big guy upstairs for bringing my family back together.
Uno is doing another check on the security system and Stephanie still has Smith. I make my way to the master bedroom to where Ainsley is in our bathroom. I lean against the frame of the door. She doesn’t see me yet. I soak in the sight of her in her naked glory, a true dream come true only I can’t do what I really want. To strip down and step in with her. My dick can’t be that close and not get a taste. I know she’s tired and needs to heal. Sex should be the last thing on my mind, but it has been too long since I’ve been inside her.
My wife coins on to me gazing at her. One of her cute smirks stretches over her face. “You just going to stand there and watch or are you going to be a good boy and wash my back?”
“You trying to kill me?”
“Not yet.”
I drop to my knees and take the washcloth from her. “Did you put the Epsom salt in?”
“Yes I did.”
“You feel okay down there and stuff?” She had a fuckuva lot of stitches.
“I appreciate that you care, but I don’t want to talk about my sore vagina right now.”
“Noted.” I kiss her shoulder and finish up. I help her out of the tub and wrap her fluffy robe around her. “You want to eat downstairs with me or want me to bring your food up?”
“I could go for a nap to be honest.”
I tuck Ainsley into our bed and go in search of Stephanie and my kid.
