I shouldn't want him like that, I had only seen him once for a split second. Feelings like that couldn't exist, especially when they involved people who were prohibited from getting close.

Pietra:

What happens if I accept it?

Mikhail:

I’ll find a way to make you mine.

I stared at the message when I heard a loud knock on my door.

“Pietra?” I heard my sister on the other side.

Pietra:

I’ve got go; I’ll text when I can talk.

Mikhail:

Okay.

I deleted his messages before leaving my phone under my pillow and getting up to open the door.

“Hey?” I leaned against the doorway and smiled at my sister, trying to hide all my embarrassment and bewilderment.

Perla grabbed my shoulder and pushed me into the room. She locked the door behind us and sat me down on the bed.

“What is happening?” She crossed her arms and gave me an inquisitive expression as she tapped her foot restlessly on the floor.

“No...”

“Look, Pietra!” She interrupted me, raising her voice. “Don't even tell me there's nothing. You are my twin sister and there is no one in the world I know better than you. So, I know you're fucking weird.”

“It's Luca...”

“Oh!” She threw her arms up and sat down next to me. “I'm nervous about it too, but he's going to choose me, I hope he chooses me.”

“He would be an idiot if he decided anything other than that.”

My cell phone vibrated under the pillow, and I rushed to pick it up out of pure reflex, attracting my sister's attention and revealing that what I had told her was a pure lie. Worst of all, it was nothing more than a notification reminding me that I needed to get work done.

“Pietra!” My sister cornered me with her gaze.

“Do you remember the man from the benefit?”

“The one you dream about?”

I nodded and clutched the cell phone to my chest.

“Don’t tell me that you've been looking for the guy on some social media. You're crazy, Pietra! You know how important it is to keep our lives secret.”

“It wasn't quite like that.”

“Then, how?”

I released the device, letting it slide onto my lap and tried to normalize my breathing, which was causing my chest to shake.

“He found me.”
