“Jordan, in here, now!” I shout as soon as Ms. Phillips leaves.
“Yea, boss?” An apprehensive look crosses his face.
“Any future meetings with Ms. Phillips need to be conducted in the conference room with her project manager and the team,” I snap.
It’s not his fault. I’m just still so thrown at how much she tried to push the issue.
“I’m not mad at you. She just pushed it too far,” I explain in a reassuring tone.
“Will do, boss.” He nods before walking back out.
I’m sitting with my head in my hands for a few moments before I grab my phone to try Hadley again. I find her contact and press the green call button. The line rings several times before I hear a soft knock on my office door. I hang up and put my phone down.
“Come in,” I say loud enough for anyone on the other side to hear.
The door opens to reveal Andy standing there with a smug grin on his face.
“Ah, Connor! Just the man I was looking for.”
“How may I help you, Andy?” I raise a brow at him, schooling my face into a look of indifference.
“I’m just amused that you claimed you were so into my wife, yet you had some special dinner last night.” He snorts.
“Yes, I did have a special dinner last night. With my family. How do you even know about that?” I try to keep my tone flat, worry sitting in my gut like a rock about where he’s trying to go with this.
“I came up to speak with you about oursituationyesterday when I heard that Jordan had just spoken to you about it and that’s why you were refusing to show your face,” he taunts triumphantly.
“Not that it is any of your business, but I had an important situation I needed to be there for with my sister and nephew.” I glare at him, rage simmering just below the surface.
“Sure.” He rolls his eyes. “Just stop contacting my wife. She told you we’re together now.”
The evil smirk that pulls at his lips leaves me uneasy.
“That is Hadley’s choice to make. She’s an adult, and if she doesn’t want my friendship, she can tell me herself.”
My resolve to go to their house to check on her after he leaves my office solidifies. Something isn’t right.
“No, it’smychoice.” He winks.
I see a gleam in his eye as something clicks inside him. I barely have a moment to register before I see the semi-automatic pistol he’s raising to my eye level.
“Andy, this isn’t necessary.” I try to keep my voice calm, though my thoughts are immediately with Hadley.
Jesus, what has this asshole done?
“What isn’t necessary is you fucking my wife, Connor. I don’t give a shit who you are. Just because I’m fucking someone else doesn’t mean I actually expectedherto go out and slip into someone else’s bed. The bitch is MINE!” he barks at me.
“If you’re going to shoot me for being with Hadley, then do it, because I wouldn’t change a damn thing. She means the world to me, but you willnottalk about her that way.”
He sounds like a hyena when he responds. “Let’s see if you really feel like you have a leg to stand on after this.”
He lowers the gun, aiming toward my leg, when I see a blur coming at us. I flinch and drop low as a shot sounds from the gun, and I hear a body hit the ground near me in the next moment. Andy is cursing at someone to get off of him. Rising to my feet, I notice that Liam Asher has him pinned down.
“I’d ask what the hell you’re doing here, but I could kiss you for your timing.”
I nod to Liam in thanks as I grab my phone from my desk and dial 911.
