My hand wraps around the doorknob, and it turns easily when I try to open it. I could’ve sworn I locked it on my way out. With a frown on my face, I slip in quietly to see Angel sitting on the couch, watching tv in the living room. She doesn’t even look at me when I slam the door behind me, and that fucking bothers me.
“The door was unlocked when I came in, Angel.” I call out softly, “Is everything okay?” I know nothing is okay, but I also don’t want her to be unsafe. Or did Killian come see her before going to Jagger’s house? Is that why the door is unlocked?
Silence.
She’s completely ignoring me.
I go to the living room and grab the remote, turning off the television and slipping it into my back pocket. She doesn’t react, doesn’t reach out, doesn’t even fucking look at me.
“Angel.” I growl. “Look at me.” My hands tremble, my body responding to the simmering anger I feel toward her. I think this is enough, this little ruse she’s putting up. At some point she has to give this up—has to move on from it if we’re going to be together.
But she still doesn’t look at me.
“Fucking. Look. At. Me.” Her blue eyes meet mine, finally. Her lips are pursed, her body tense. I want to take it all away. I want her back.MyFirefly. “What the hell is your problem?”
“You.” She tells me with a whisper. “You fucking betrayed me.”
“Betrayedyou?” I ask, outraged. “I got you out of there, Angel! He would’ve never let you go!”
“He did, though!” She screams, and I’m so taken aback that I take a step forward out of instinct. Fight or flight.Fight. My hands ball into fists until my short nails draw blood on the palms of my hands. “He was awake! He was going to let me go anyway!”
“Bullshit! He let us go because I appeased him!” I yell. “I gave him a part of me he fucking wanted, and he let us go.”
“He is yourbrother.” She deadpans, looking disgusted. It bothers me, for some reason the accusation feels worse than it should. Angel is making me sound dirty, like I’m tainted. I bet the little voices in her head she told me about long ago are wrestling with that comment, her face shows it. It’s as if she’s torn with that nagging thought of him and I. But he’s not my fucking brother. I don’t care if she thinks it.
“Adoptivebrother.” I clarify. “When I met him, I was already an adult.”
“Doesn’t this feel wrong?” She asks me, her eyes tearing up. “It should feel wrong to fuck him.”
Yes.
No.
“Did it feel wrong to have his cock inside you instead of mine?” She looks away, giving me my answer. “You didn’t even hesitate, Angel.”
“He’s my—”
“Don’t fucking say that shit to me.” I roar, taking a step back and throwing the remote against the wall. She yelps as it falls broken to the hardwood floor. “We are forever. What you have with Killian is a fucking mistake.”
“Okay.” She breathes softly. “You and I—you’re right. We have always been forever. But Drav…this can’t happen again. I can’t have sex with him again.”
“Why?” I frown. Not that I want to share her in the first place. “Are you scared you’re gonna catch feelings or something?”
Her hands twist in her lap and she doesn’t look at me. I knew it. I knew there was something wrong. Of course she could feel something for him, she’s never been with anyone else but us, no matter how forced her marriage has been.
I walk up to her and kneel between her legs, spreading them wider apart to fit. “Angel.” I brush my knuckles across her cheek and she gasps when she looks at my mouth. I think this is the first time she’s looked at me since we came in the house, and her eyes well up with fresh tears. “Do you feel something for him?”
“What happened to you?”
I sigh, retracting my hand and searching her eyes. “Do you feel something for him?”
“Hate.” She lifts her chin and squares her shoulders. “And I never want to see him again, but I know now that I’ll have to.”
“Oh?” She’s not wrong, but did Killian say something? “How do you know?”
“I’m not fucking stupid, Draven.” Her hand comes to my face and she cups one cheek. “Stop keeping me in the dark.”
“You’re right,” I tell her. “We will be seeing him again. It’s inevitable with us being soulmates, we will have to work together.”
