“Do you not remember the polar bear’s response when Tessa was devouring all those desserts? Orgasm on a plate, I think she called them.”
“Oh, yeah,” Bygul said. “Didn’t he drag her—”
“Into a closet for some sexy times? Yes, he did,” Soraya said. “I’m counting on a similar reaction from the wolf.”
“But she’s been eating desserts in front of him this entire time,” Muezza protested. “How is pudding going to be any different?”
“Trust me,” Soraya said. “Apparently, it’s all about the spoon.”
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again,” Bygul said.
“Humans are so weird,” the four cats chorused together.
Story finished, Merry examined the table, pondering her chocolate choices. Eventually, she selected a brownie and some truffles.
She then spent a long moment, looking back and forth between the brownie in one hand and the package of truffles in the other, trying to decide which to taste first.
Decisions, decisions.
As she was pondering her options, Phoenix set a giant bowl in front of her. “I’ve never made chocolate pudding before, but it was super easy—it barely took ten minutes from start to finish—and I have to say, I taste tested it and it’s delicious. Enjoy!”
Letting out a little growl of delight, Merry dragged the bowl closer, set the brownie directly in the center, and, with truffles clutched in her left hand, began spooning up brownie pudding with her right.
“Mmmmm,” she groaned after the first bite. “Soooo good.”
Chapter Six
“I DON’T GET it,” Karl said. “What’s the deal with all the chocolate?”
Sam was too busy watching his mate as she practically made love to the spoon, licking every drop from it before going in for another bite, to bother answering.
“It’s delicious, man. What’s not to get?” Cole scowled. “I do think she could have shared at least one brownie, though.”
“Do you know nothing of demon hybrids?” Glory exclaimed as she walked by.
“Just that they’re a little unstable,” Cole said.
“Who cares about unstable?” Glory said. “We’re all a little unstable, for shift’s sake. It’s their obsessive personalities you have to watch out for, plus they’re extremely possessive. The minute Phoenix gave those chocolates to Merry, they became hers, and no one, not even her mate, could convince her to give them away. The situation is even more dire since it appears she’s a little attached to the taste of chocolate. So, yeah, best not be messing with her current chocolate obsession.”
“You know, all these years, you’ve talked about brownies and chocolate cake and I’ve never really regretted that I couldn’t eat the wonders of chocolate with you,” Karl said. “After all, there’s plenty of other sweets and delicious things in the world. But now, seeing the look of bliss on Merry’s face as she eats her weight in chocolate, I’m really sad that I’m never going to know its taste.”
Merry’s eyes flew open. “Wait. What? You’ve never tasted chocolate?”
“It’s poisonous to wolves,” Karl said.
Merry whipped her head to the side and stared at Sam, wide-eyed. “Really?”
He made a face. “I mean, it won’t kill us, but it has been known to make dogs terribly ill.”
“But you’re not dogs, you’re wolves.”
“Yeah, but it’ll probably have the same effect.”
“So you’ve never tried it? You don’t actually know what it’ll do to you?”
Sam shrugged. “Never really felt the need to find out.” Though he agreed with Karl, now that he’d seen the look on Merry’s face while she was eating chocolate, he had an unexpected desire to taste test it.
“Right.” Merry stood abruptly, spun in a circle, then grabbed the box the kittens had all come in. She stared at it for a long moment.
