Blech. I need to vomit now.

“I was thinking since college is coming up…”

“I’m not going.” She cut him off, bouncing on his legs.

“What?” He pushed her back, his face contorted in confusion. “Why not?”

“I don’t wanna go. I want a break from school and schedules.”

“Well, that’s you.” The look on his face was anything but happy.

“Don’t you want a break?” Victoria spoke in a pouty voice, and I could imagine her trying to put her lip out.

Yeah. I really need to vomit now.

“No.” He smiled and leaned back more. “I’m going into the engineering program at PSU.”

“You’re seriously heading right into college?”

“That’s what I’ve been telling you.”

“Why not travel and dip into your trust fund?”

“Uh, because unlikesomepeople, I enjoy working.”

“You’re just being facetious.” She booped his nose.

I slammed my hand over my mouth to stop the laugh that almost burst out.

“No.” He shook his head. “I’m breaking up with you.”

“You’re hilarious.” She threw her head back, reminding me of a Pez dispenser. “You’re not breaking up with me.”

“Yes, Victoria, I am.” He shoved her off his lap. “We’re over.”

“Henry, stop joking around.” She stomped her foot, making it echo in the small space. “You arenotbreaking up with me.”

“Victoria. I’m. Not. Joking.” He stood up and walked past her. “It’s over.”

He left the gazebo, walking towards the tree I occupied. Victoria let out a howl and stormed away towards the party.

I pressed myself against the huge trunk hoping he didn’t see me when I heard yelling back at the party.

Curiosity killed the cat, and I maneuvered closer to the party to see what the fight was about.

Edie’s brother stood toe-to-toe with Jackson, who graduated a few years ago. He shoved Gene and swung on him as Henry ran closer and split them up.

“Whoa!”

“Move it, rich boy!” Jackson growled.

“Fuck off!” Henry shoved him back. “I think it’s time for you to go.”

“You can’t tell me to leave!” Jackson shoved him back.

“No, but the cops can.” Henry growled and pulled his phone out, holding it up. “Got any warrants out?”

Blood oozed down Jackson’s face as he stormed off.
