“How long did we live here?” I ask as I get off his lap.
“Almost two years,” he answers. When we walk into the kitchen, Phillip is cooking and preparing food. I frown as I look around.
“Are you staying here, Phillip?” He looks at me and shakes his head before he continues mixing.
“No. I’m going to do as much prepping as I can tonight before I come home.”
“Will you be here by yourself?” I don’t know why, but I don’t like the idea. His lips lift into a soft smile.
“No, Clara is on her way. She’s going to help get things set up for tomorrow. Then we’re going by the restaurant to have dinner.” I’m assuming he means the restaurant Phoenix took me to earlier this week.
Was that only a few days ago? It seems like ages.We say our goodbyes and head to leave.
“Put your mask on until we get in the car,” Phoenix instructs as he pulls his back down. I scrunch my nose wondering why, but follow his lead as I pull it back on.
“I’m being overcautious,” Phoenix answers my question before I ask. “From the intel I’ve received, no one knew you were kidnapped, but we can’t be too careful.” He guides me to the SUV and helps me inside.
Once the door is shut and Rex pulls out of the driveway, we take our masks back off. “Do you think someone would try to take me again?” I ask.
“I think your father is capable of anything.” He’s right, he is. I learned that the hard way. I lean up and kiss his jaw, thankful he saved me. There’s no telling where I’d be if he hadn’t.
When we get home, Anna is still sleeping, so I decide to let her be and we can watch movies another day. Maybe the day after the auction. I’m sure I’ll need the girl time after that. Phoenix tends to some business in his upstairs office, while I take a long bubble bath and read. This bathtub is amazing. It keeps the water warm, so I never have to refill it.
After forty-five minutes, Phoenix walks in and sits on the edge of the tub, staring down at me. I lick my lips as I return his stare. He’s still in his black pants and black shirt, but the sleeves are rolled up, revealing his tattoos. “Are you done?” I ask. His eyesdarken as he reaches his hand out and traces my collarbone with his finger.
“No.” His finger dips beneath the water and encircles one of my nipples. I suck in a breath, my stomach trembling. “I kept thinking about you in here and I had to come see you.” His finger trails to my other nipple. I swallow and arch into his touch, but I’m careful to not hit the tray holding my book.
He stands, leaving me wanting, and extends his hand to me. “Come on, love. We need to get ready to go.” I’m disappointed his touches aren’t leading anywhere, but I’m excited to go on this cruise. He smirks at me as he helps me out of the tub, then helps me dry off. “Later,” he promises as he leaves me to finish getting ready. I rub my thighs together in anticipation.
After the cruise takes off, Phoenix buys us some drinks and we find a secluded corner of the ship to look at the sights. He points out places to me he owns; restaurants, hotels, and a warehouse he holds the fights at.
“I used to come to River Street with my mom as a little girl almost every weekend. We’d do shopping, watch the tourists, and watch the boats. Besides baking with her, that’s another memory I have of her that’s my favorite.” He doesn’t respond, simply stares out at the water.
I nudge him slightly. “What about your mother?” I ask. He never talks about her. It makes me curious.
“I don’t talk about my mother,” he replies. His jaw ticks as he continues to stare at the water. I want to push, but tonight has been a carefree night so far, and I don’t want to ruin it. Instead, I run my hand up his arm, to his shoulder, and rub my thumb along his fading hickey.
“I think I need to rectify this soon.” He finally turns to look at me, his lips tipping up slightly. Shadows are still in his eyes, but he wraps his arms around my waist and pulls me betweenthe railings and him. His knee pushing between my legs as I rub against him shamelessly.
“I’m not going to argue with that, love.” He leans down and captures my lips, all thoughts of his mother dissipating with the desire simmering in my veins.
“If you don’t come with me I’ll kill you, but first I’ll kill Phoenix and I’ll make you watch.” Fear settles in my mind at the thought of something happening to Phoenix.
“I knew you loved him.”
I force my eyes open as I suck in a breath. Phoenix’s arm is heavy on my waist. I roll over and straddle him. His arms come around me immediately.
“Kenz?” His voice is rough with sleep. Leaning up slightly, I stare down at him, assuring myself he’s there. One arm wraps around my waist, the other grabs the nape of my neck.
“Nix.” It’s a plea as my lips find his. He pulls me down so I’m flush against him as his tongue finds mine. He’s safe. He’s here. He’s mine.
He pulls back slightly, his gaze full of concern. “What’s wrong?”
“I had a bad dream.” His gaze softens.
I rock against him, and his chest rumbles with a growl. I’m wearing a T-shirt and thong. He’s naked and I can feel him hard against me. I kiss up his jaw and pull his earlobe between my lips before making my way down to the spot next to his Adam’s apple. Eyeing the hickey I left earlier tonight, I’m determined to make it darker.
As I suck and lick, he pushes my thong aside and lines himself up with me. “Nix, fuck,” I moan. He eases into me as I suck his skin between my teeth.
