“Eh. I had it handled.” I looked at the patio door over Haley’s shoulder where Phoenix bounced on her toes. “I do have something else for you.”
Phoenix banged on the door and waved frantically when Haley glanced over her shoulder. A huge smile took over her face, matching my daughters. “What is she doing here?”
“She’s been hanging out with Rylie and Mason while I convinced you that I wasn’t stupid enough to ruin our relationship.”
“You really thought you were going to have to convince me?”
I rubbed a hand through my hair. “I had no idea what Stella had told you. I needed to be prepared.”
“Nothing she said would’ve stopped me from believing you.” She chewed on the inside of her cheek. “Now that I think about it, I would probably let you get away with murder. I should work on that.”
“Or you could just believe that I love you and would never do anything to hurt you.”
“Let’s go with that option. It sounds like a lot less work and probably comes with more dick.”
“Way more dick. Also, for the record, I wasn’t going to let you divorce me. I would’ve tied you to the bed.”
“Oh. Now that sounds like fun.” Haley wiggled her eyebrows.
I smirked. “Later.” Smacking her ass lightly and I motioned toward the door with my chin. “Let’s go get our girl.”
Haley climbed off my lap and moved toward the patio door. I walked out just behind her. “Hey, pretty girl,” she said, squatting to hug Nix.
“Hi, Mom!”
“What?” Haley sputtered, surprised. Tears lined her lashes for a completely different reason as she gaped at Nix.
Nix smiled brightly and bounced. “You’re going to marry my daddy. Which means you are my new mom.” Haley sucked in a deep breath and slowly looked at me.
“Asher?”
“I had to make sure she was okay with us being married.”
Haley’s face softened at my words. “And are you?” she asked Nix.
“Yep!” Phoenix popped the P and ran over to the table where Mason and Rylie sat holding Knox. Rylie looked like she could cry as she passed the little box to Phoenix.
“Here you go, Daddy!” Nix threw the box at me, which I luckily caught. My heart bouncing wildly in my heart.
That could’ve been bad.
Phoenix walked over to Haley who covered her mouth with a shaky hand.
“Asher?”
Grabbing her free hand, I pulled her to stand before kneeling in front of her. “Haley. I love you with everything that I am. I love how you love my daughter. I love that you’ll eat Chinese food for me even though you hate it. I love that you put your feet on me when they’re cold. I love that you love romantic comedies and that you reference movies and T.V. shows when you talk. I love you. Everything about you. Will you marry me? Again?” I sucked in a breath as I watch her cover her face with both hands, nodding frantically as she cried. The smile that broke through after she dropped her arms almost knocked me on my ass. I don’t think she had ever looked so stunning.
Laughing, Haley bent down to cup my face. “Yes. A million times, yes,” She whispered, her warm breath ghosted over my lips before she pressed her mouth to mine in a sweet kiss. I stood wrapping my arms around her and lifting her up.
Thank God.
CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE
HALEY
“I can’t believeyou’re getting married,” Stephanie said. I couldn’t hold in my laugh as she chomped on a tortilla chip while pumping in the middle of my living room.
A year ago, Stephanie wouldn’t have the nerve to whip off her shirt in my house, but she did exactly that as I poured her a margarita.
