“Wantto tell us what the hell crawled up your ass?” Mason asked twenty minutes after we sat down at a high-top in the back of Last Shot bar. Cam picked up a dart and chucked it at the board.
I grabbed my beer and took a pull. “Not particularly,” I grunted. Grabbing my phone out of my pocket, I typed out yet another message to Haley.
Asher
Come on, Hales. Talk to me.
I stared at it, willing a response. I was acting like a damn pussy. I wasn’t even this crazy with Carrie. When she got pissed and stopped talking to me, I just let her cool off. Hell, there were a couple of times we went weeks before she came around. What was it about Haley that had me acting like damn a teenage girl?
“Here you go, boys. Another round.” Our waitress dropped off a second pitcher.
“We didn’t order another,” Cam said, but pulled out his wallet, ready to pay.
“No worries.” She motioned toward the bar. “Those girls sent it over.” I looked over my shoulder at the table full of girls giggling and waving.
“They’ve had too much,” I grumbled, pushing my empty glass away. Even when we went out, I never had more than one. Unlike these jokers, I usually woke up at the asscrack of dawn.
“You two should go thank them for us,” Cam suggested, filling his glass.
“I’m good.” I didn’t look up from my phone as I typed out another message.
“Fuck, I’ll go.” Grayson stood and walked over to a bunch of catcalls. I rolled my eyes.
“You realize that you’re also single, right?” Cam asked. “If I didn’t have Stephanie, I’d take advantage.”
I scoffed. “Alright, Fabio.” Cam would have taken advantage of any and every girl that winked in his direction if he was single.
Screw that, though.
As far as I am concerned, I’m taken.
“Who the fuck is Fabio?” Cam laughed.
“The guy on all the romance books,” Mason answered as he threw another dart. “Although, I think Asher fits the description just a little better with his long ass hair.”
“You wish you could pull this off.” I exaggerated flipping my hair over my shoulder like a girl but didn’t look up from the screen clutched in my hand.
Mason snatched my phone from my hand and put it in his pocket. “Dude. What the hell is going on with you?”
I squeezed my eyes shut and pinched my nose. “I fucked up with Haley.” The words tasted sour as they left my lips.
“Again?” Cam asked, and I scowled at him. “What? The girls talk. I hear shit.”
“What have you heard?” The muscles in my back stiffened.
“Just that you kissed her and then called it a mistake. Not cool, Man.”
My head reared back. “The fuck? That wasn’t a mistake.”
“That’s what Ry said too.” Mason grimaced.
“I didn’t call it a damn mistake.” I growled. Where the hell would she have gotten that?
Mason put up one hand. “Well, I know that. And I told Ry what you told me, but that’s not the story they got from Haley.”
I groaned, dropping my forehead into my hands. My elbows rested on the sticky high-top table. “Fuck.” How could she ever think that kissing her would be a mistake? I told her we needed to talk about what happened.
I shouldn’t have waited so damn long.
