“I’ve got it, son. You just focus on taking care of her.”

“Always,” he promised, his blue eyes locked on mine. She patted his cheek as they all left the room.

Cam ran into the bathroom. I closed my eyes and rested my head back against the pillow. A yawn escaped. My entire body sunk back against the bed.

“You tired, babe?” He asked as he walked back into the room.

I peeked an eye open. “Yeah.”

“I’m going to have the nurse grab me a blanket and pillow so I can stay. Do you need anything?”

“Can you hold me?” I scooted my body over, making room for him.

He eyed the space and kicked off his shoe. Lifting the blanket, Cam slid in next to me. “Are you sure this is okay?”

“I just need you close,” I said. My head rested against his chest. His heartbeat played a soothing rhythm in my ear, calming me. His strong arm around my shoulders, his other hand resting on my stomach.

I woke to the sun shining in the hospital room, my head pounding. I looked around, but Cam wasn’t in the room. The door opened slowly as a nurse popped in. “How are you feeling today?”

“Okay. My head’s a little sore.”

She nodded. “That’s to be expected. You have quite the knot back there. I’ll get you some Tylenol for the pain.”

“Thank you.”

Cam walked back in just as she was getting ready to shut the door. Her face flushed a light pink when he smiled at her. He looked freshly showered in a pair of jeans and a black t-shirt.

I know the feeling, girl.

“Hey, baby.” He walked right past her, leaning over to kiss me. “I wanted to be back when you woke up. How long have you been awake?”

“Just a few minutes. Where have you been?”

“I wanted to stop by home and grab a few things. Mom and Stacey have most of our clothes and personal items moved to the Cabin. Asher and Mason are going to move the couches and beds out in a couple of hours.”

“So, we’re really not going home?” I hated that we had to uproot our entire life because of my past.

“We’re going to our forever home,” he said, and my heart fluttered in my chest. The thought of a forever home with Cam was exactly what I needed. “Speaking of.” He stood, grabbed my hand, and kneeled on one knee.

A laugh bubbled out of me. “What are you doing, crazy? I already agreed to marry you.”

“Shush.” He grinned and pulled a ring out, holding it out for me to see. “I know. But I wanted to make it official. Stephanie Lynn Monroe. I know you agreed to this last night, but there was a lot going on. Life can get muddy, but one that thing clear as day is how much I love you. Please, marry me?”

“Yes. A million times, yes.” He pushed the simple, solitaire diamond ring on my finger. I pulled his face to mine. “You’re stuck with me now.” My mouth grazed his.

“Nowhere else I’d rather be.”
