“Will that hurt them at all?” I asked.

Dr. Whitmore smiled at me. “Not at all. It will just give us a more accurate look at the baby. It’s very common when someone is only seven to eight weeks along. I’ll be able to give you a more accurate date once we do the ultrasound.”

“Thank you, Doctor.” I stood and held my hand out to him.

“Of course. I’ll see you in a little bit.” He shook it once before turning on his heel, leaving us alone. Stephanie placed a hand on her stomach.

“We made a baby.” The wonder in my voice couldn’t be masked as I placed a hand over hers.

“Are you sure you’re okay with all of this?” She nibbled on her bottom lip.

“More than you could ever know. You’ve given me everything I’ve ever wanted.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN

STEPHANIE

Cam grippedmy hand tightly as we watched the dark screen. “Okay. I’m going to insert this and we will take a look at your little one,” the doctor said before inserting the wand. It made me a little uncomfortable. I wanted to squirm on the table as he clicked a few buttons on the monitor, but everything fell away as soon as the incredibly fast heartbeat filled the room.

I covered my mouth before looking up at Cam. He had so much love in his eyes as he stared at me.

“There it is.” The doctor pointed to a little jellybean on the screen. “Heartbeat is strong. I’m just going to get a few measurements and we will get you a few pictures. Congratulations, mom.”

Mom.

I was going to be a mother to this sweet little babe. I didn’t know you could love something so much without even seeing it, but the amount of love that filled my heart was unbelievable. Undeniable. Cam leaned down and pressed his lips to my forehead before placing them by my ear. “Thank you. I love you. So much.” I turned my head away from the screen and pressed a quick kiss to his lips.

“I love you, too.”

“Okay. We’re all done here. You’re due on April 2nd. I want you to get some prenatal vitamins. Do you have an OB in town? If not I would be happy to continue to care for you,” Dr. Whitmore said after he washed his hands.

“That would be great. Thank you, Doctor.”

He nodded once. “I’ll let you get dressed. I’ll make a note to have them schedule your next appointment and call you. A nurse will be back to take you to your room.” He handed over the long sheet of ultrasound pictures. “Here you go. Congratulations again.”

Cam reached over to shake his hand one more time. I couldn’t take my eyes off the small string of pictures.

“Should we give everyone an update?” Cam asked.

I looked up at him with wide eyes. I’d completely forgotten anyone had been waiting for us. “Yes. You want to call Rylie and Haley for me to let them know I’m okay?”

“I’m sure they’re still in the waiting room,” he said as a nurse wheeled in a chair. “I can push her if that’s okay?” He asked the nurse. She nodded and stepped aside.

“Room 312.” She patted my shoulder. “I’m so glad you’re okay, Steph.”

“Thank you.”

She nodded, going back to the nurses’ station, trusting us to get back to the room on our own.

“They’re here?” I asked once we were walking back through the halls.

“Of course they are. Everyone is. The only reason I’d gotten an update on you was because of Grayson.”

“We should have them all come back to the room. Tell them at the same time.”

“I’m not sure they’ll allow that many people back at once. You just woke up. You need to take it easy.”

His worried brow made me chuckle. “I’m fine, babe. Just a small cut. Nothing I can’t handle.”
