“What’s her last name?”
“Lewis. Why?” She pulled her head back to look at him. A mischievous smile played on his lips.
“I still have to do a background check on her. Make sure she’s good enough for you.”
Her face softened. “She is. She owns the flower shop on Grover.”
I smiled. “Oh, I’ve met her. She’s so sweet.”
“Who are you guys talking about?” Haley asked as she walked back in and plopped down on the couch.
“Meghan Lewis. Stacey’s new beau.”
“Oh, she’s hot,” Haley said in approval as we all looked at her. “What? She is. I bet they look great together.”
“I’m sure they do,” Mason agreed. “But how come you don’t seem surprised by this?”
“Eh. Love is love. Although, I’m a little disappointed you didn’t try to sway me your way.” She winked. We all laughed. Leave it to Haley to break the moment.
Stacey pulled away from Cam and sat on the couch next to Haley, putting her arm around her. “Would you be easily swayed?”
She eyed Stacey up and down for a minute. “Wish I could say yes, but sadly, no.”
“And that’s why.” Stacey pressed a quick kiss to Haley’s cheek.
We spent the next hour talking, catching up, and planning our next girls’ night, much to Cam’s disappointment. I swear the man wanted to be involved in all of my free time. Luckily, he understood that we both needed our friends.
“You ready to head out?” Cam asked. His voice rumbled through his chest where I had taken up residence. Nodding my head, I shifted, getting ready to stand up.
“I think we are going to head home,” I said to the group.
Rylie beamed up at me as I walked toward her. Leaning down, I gave her a quick hug. “You know you just referred to his place as home, right?” she whispered. My breath caught, but I shook my head. “I’m so glad you’re happy, Steph. You deserve it.”
I hardly ever referred to any place as home since I moved to Sweet Springs. Even my apartment, I referred to it as just that, my apartment. Someplace to sleep and spend a little time when I wasn’t working. Nowhere had felt like it was where I belonged until I met Cam.
He was my home.
I moved to Haley as Cam shook Mason’s and Asher’s hands.
“I’m heading out too. I’ll walk out with you,” Stacey said as I reached her. “I have one more favor.” Stacey pulled out her keys as we stepped onto the front porch.
“That I take your keys? Gladly.” Cam snatched them away from her before she could protest.
“I wasn’t going to drive, you dufus.” She rolled her eyes at her brother. “I was just grabbing my bag out of the car. Will you unlock it, please?”
Cam did as asked, and Stacey grabbed the small bag out of the back seat. “Hold on to that, would you?” She tossed it to him, laughing when it hit him in the chest. Threading her arm through mine, we walked toward Cam’s place. “I’m staying in your guest room. In case you haven’t figured that out yet.”
“Okay.” Cam agreed. Like he would ever say no.
“Now, as for the favor. I need you to be there when I tell mom about Meghan.”
“Done,” he agreed without blinking. “Now, I need a favor,” Cam said when we reached his driveway. Stacey stopped walking, waiting for him to continue. “Keep your hands off my girl. She’s mine,” he said. Reaching out, he pulled me to him, making us both crack up.
“Isn’t that my decision?” I joked, trying to keep a straight face. Cam growled, dropped Stacey’s bag in the driveway, and tossed me over his shoulder. I yelped when he slapped my ass.
“You’re mine, pretty girl.” His words made my heart race.
“You know she could want to be with the good-looking sibling,” Stacey called from behind us. I placed my hands on Cam’s lower back and pushed myself up so I could look at her. Her whole body shook as she laughed, bending to grab her bag.
