“What can I get you, boys?” Cara asked. She was one of the few employees my sister had. She was a sweet girl who had recently graduated from college. While she may give us doe eyes, she never actually hit on either of us. Honestly, I figured Stacey gave her a talk when she hired Cara.
“I’ll have a black coffee to go, please.”
Mason leaned up against the counter next to me. “Make that two?” Her face turned a bright red when he smiled at her politely.
“Sure thing. Add it to your tab?” She tore her eyes away from Mason to ask me. I agreed, and Mason turned back to me as she prepared the drinks.
“Maybe she preferred it that way. Maybe she doesn’t want a second date.”
I didn’t even have to think about it before I shot the idea down. There was no faking our chemistry. Our kiss was explosive. “Nah. She’s willing to take it slow.”
“You good with that?” he asked almost protectively.
“I’m good with whatever she’s willing to give,” I said as Cara set the drinks down on the counter with a smile. We both thanked her and headed back out.
“That’s why you wanted to know when they were going.”
“I might want to see her today.”
He clapped his hands before rubbing them together. “You gonna pull her over?” He acted excited about the possibility. I swear pulling people over just to scare the shit out of them was one of his favorite things to do when we had a slow day. He always had a reason, of course, but they were insignificant.
“Sounds like it could be fun.”
“Hell yes, it will be. Plus, I’ll get to see my girl.” He flashed his teeth before pulling his glasses over his eyes.

Sittingand watching cars pass without pulling anyone over could be boring as fuck, but I quite enjoyed watching people slam on their brakes when we came into view. We’d been sitting on an access road outside of the strip mall for half an hour. The girls had spent the past couple of hours looking at everything under the sun. We knew because every few minutes Rylie sent Mason a picture, asking for his opinion.
His phone was going to die before they even left the store. I snapped a quick picture of Mason staring at his phone, brow furrowed as he compared two different crib sets and sent it to Stephanie.
Camden
Look at the poor guy.
Stephanie responded with a picture of Rylie testing out a glider, her feet propped up, and her eyes closed.
Stephanie
I think she’s getting worn out.
Camden
I’d much rather see a picture of you.
The little bubbles popped up and disappeared before a message finally came through.
Stephanie
Same.
I grinned and snapped a selfie, shooting it off to her. “Taking selfies now?” Mason laughed, never looking away from his screen. “You would too if your girl requested one.”
“Stephanie asked you for a picture?” he asked, surprised.
“She sent me a picture of your girl first, and I told her I would rather see her.”
“You got a picture of my girl?” He leaned over to see my phone. I clicked on the image and showed it to him. His eyes softened. “Send that to me.”
