“Because I’m going to show him how amazing she is,” Parker says. “It was a real promise. I’m going to protect Kylie from getting hurt. We’ll both end up with the people we want.”

She side-eyes him. “And you want Yvette?”

He nods. “And I’m going to be with her.”

Josie huffs. “Wow. That’s a lot to take in.”

“See why I could barely explain myself?” I shrug. “I need Parker to get through this. I won’t be with Lewis without him.”

Josie lowers her voice. “You both realize how nuts this sounds?”

Parker and I share a look and then let out a chuckle. “We know,” we reply in unison.

Josie nods. “At least you’re on the same page.”

“We are,” I reply.

Josie’s eyes narrow. “So, this morning, why did you mention buying a bikini?”

“Umm, we’re going to Logan’s Point tomorrow,” I say, squirming against the queasiness rippling through me. “Do you want to join us?”

“Umm, we don’t do Logan’s Point. Seriously, what universe is this?”

“She’s going with me and my friends,” Parker explains. “She’s getting closer to Lewis.”

Josie smiles at me. “Well, that’s something I want for you.”

Hope rises inside me. “So, you’ll come with us?”

“It’s not just couples going.” Parker wriggles his eyebrows. “My friend Tyler is single.”

The idea sends a thrill down my spine. I sit up tall, beaming at Josie. “That’s perfect! You should come.”

Josie backs up on her chair, palms lifted. “Umm, no. You know I only have eyes for one guy.”

“Who?” Parker asks.

“Wyatt Hayes,” I reply.

“What?” Parker sniggers. “He doesn’t even go to our school anymore. And, I doubt he’s ever coming back. Tyler’s a good guy, and he’s in town.”

“Ugh. I don’t care about Tyler,” Josie complains. “And I want to stick to my regular spring break plans.”

“Come on, Kylie would love her best friend to come,” Parker insists.

Josie looks him up and down. “Why do you care?”

“Because I’m doing my best to be a good boyfriend.”

Josie takes him in, seemingly impressed.

“What do you say, Josie?” I ask.

She bites her lip. “I can’t do Logan’s Point. The stories I hear just fill me with too much anxiety. Do you really have to go there to be with Lewis?”

“She does,” Parker answers for me. “This isn’t her last shot, it’s her first shot. Lewis doesn’t know she exists.”

“Hey, that's not true,” I whine.
