After I part ways withParker, I take my usual seat in English class. Josie and I used to share so many classes together, but this year, it’s like the administration staff went out of their way to separate us.

Our teacher begins the lesson by discussing the poem we’re currently analyzing. I try to follow along, but I can’t stop overthinking the cafeteria situation.

All Parker’s friends think we’re a couple.

I’m going to Logan’s Point with them tomorrow.

Lewis and Yvette agreed to go for burgers with us.

Is this seriously my life?

Beep, beep.

I check that the teacher isn’t looking in my direction, and subtly pull my phone from my pocket.

It’s a text from Josie.

Oh crap.

It’s the third unread text from her. With all the craziness happening at lunch, it never occurred to me to check my phone.

“Hey, where are you?”

“Is everything okay?”

“What happened? You never came to the library?”

My stomach jitters with queasiness. With trembling fingers, I quickly text a reply.“Sorry. I got caught up in something.”

I’m pathetic. I still have no clue how to tell her what’s really going on. And how do I even tell her it all ramped up to a kiss?

Oh my gosh, I still can’t believe that happened.

I kissed Parker Kelly.
