I giggle, pulling out of the hug. “I’m sorry you never got the chance to meet him.”

Josie sits forward from the backseat. “She will. You’re going to get him back.”

Tess turns to the back. “How can you be so sure?”

“Because I have spent time with Parker,” she replies. “He’s infatuated with our girl. Anytime he spends with Yvette Anderson will only make him see clearly.”

Tess gives me a hopeful smile. “I want to wish you all the luck, but I’m scared about your heart getting broken.”

“It already broke,” I admit. “If it’s smashed again, it can’t hurt any worse.”

Tess winces. “It can if you see them kiss.”

Josie groans. “Who let Miss Negative behind the wheel?”

It makes me giggle. “That’s why I need Parker. He’s Mr. Positivity.”

Tess sighs. “I’m so sorry that I have to go back to the dorms tonight.”

“Don’t be. I’ll be okay.”

Josie clutches my shoulder. “I won’t leave our girl alone.”

Thirty-Three

Lewis’s parents gavehim back his driving privileges for the first day back at school. Before spring break started, if anyone told me I’d be riding in Lewis Freaking Allen’s car, it’d be the equivalent of winning the lottery. Now, as we pull into the student parking lot, it feels like we’re two wounded soldiers, coming back from the battle of broken hearts.

“Ready to do this?” Lewis asks, opening his car door.

“Nope.”

I exit the car and we wander toward the school gate.

I glance around the surrounding cars. “So, you haven’t seen Parker since the camping trip?”

“No, it’s weird. He didn’t turn up at Kai’s on Sunday, and he hasn’t been returning my texts.”
