Despite the awkwardness wreaking havoc through me, I melt into him. The lake water dripping off us gives the hug an unsettling weird feeling. Then there’s the fact he’s not wearing a shirt. I’m so glad the dip in the water has cooled me off.
“Are you guys coming back?” Yvette calls out, hanging off the side of the boat.
Parker waves them off. “Go on without us.”
I pull away from him, rubbing the excess water off my arms.
“Or did you want to go back on the boat?” he asks me.
I shake my head. “I’m good. I already got a show.”
When Tyler boards the boat, and Lewis is on the skis, the boat takes off. Parker grabs our towels and we sit on a patch of grass that isn’t too shady. We gaze out as Lewis hangs on behind the boat. He gets air and tries some kind of flip, but doesn’t make it all the way.
Parker reclines on his elbows. “Good try, Lewy.”
“I’m surprised you didn’t try any flips.”
He flops onto his back. “I was off my game.”
“No way. Not the great Parker Kelly.”
He chuckles as I lie down next to him. “What can I say? I’ve never felt like I had to impress like this before.”
“But you’re always competing with your friends.”
“Yeah, but, I’ve never had two gorgeous girls on the boat before.”
I blush, even though I know Yvie is consuming his thoughts.
“Anyway,” he says, brushing it off. “I just got too in my head.”
“About impressing Yvie?”
He shrugs. “I knew she was watching me.” He nudges me. “But I really wanted to impress you.”
I mumble a nervous laugh. “Me? Why?”
He frowns and folds his arms across his chest. “I don’t know anymore.”
My back cramps and I turn my face away. Why do I get the feeling I’m the one who keeps saying the wrong thing?
I clear my throat and murmur, “Well, you still did better than I ever could.”
He smirks. “Maybe, but I haven’t seen you on the skis yet.”
“Keep dreaming.”
“Dreaming about you, on skis, in a bikini?” Parker questions. “I can manage that.”
My breath catches in my throat as my blush increases. Both last night and this morning, he’s had excessive time with Yvie. He should be raving about her non-stop. So, why is he flirting with me?
I turn my face back and smile at his big brown eyes.
Parker brushes back my hair. “You know, I just thought of something. A week ago, I walked into the café where you work and convinced you to date me.”
I puff a laugh. “Oh my gosh, that was a week ago?Ha, happy anniversary.”
“Would it be our one week anniversary today, or tomorrow?” Parker questions. “Last Friday at school was when we convinced our friends.”
