I look down as Parker intertwines his fingers with hers.
Okay, this officially got too weird. I’m leaning into him while he’s trying to get closer to her. When I entered into this arrangement to get between a couple, I didn’t think I’d literally be sandwiched between an intimate moment.
Thankfully, being totally weirded out distracts me from my fear. As the ride comes to a stop, the hands in front of me disentangle, and the bar is lifted from our laps.
We shuffle off the ride, and once we’re off the platform, I get a glimpse of Lewis.
Whoa. He is not happy.
“Uh, what was that?” Lewis deadpans at Parker.
“What?” Parker says, unable to rid his smile.
If he wants to act dumb, this is a bad start. But I can’t blame him. He got to hold Yvie’s hand and get a step closer to being with her.
“You and my girlfriend,” Lewis says, puffing out my chest. “Or did you not think I could see you holding her hand?”
Yvette laughs, wandering away as she scrolls on her phone. “Lighten up, Lewy. I just wanted something strong to hold onto.”
Light pink colors Parker’s cheeks as he watches Yvette saunter away.
Lewis groans. “Look, dude, it’s not cool and you know it.”
“What did you expect me to do?” Parker argues. “Fling her hand off me?”
“You didn’t need to hold her hand back.”
Parker rolls his eyes. “You’re being ridiculous. I wouldn’t expect you to push Kylie away if she were scared.”
Lewis glances at me, and then back at Parker. “I’m not saying you should’ve been mean to her. I just obviously wasn’t cool with you holding my girlfriend’s hand.”
Parker shrugs. “What can I say? She grabbed my hand and thought I was a stronger choice than you.”
Lewis smirks. “Dang, you’re full of yourself.”
“I’m just calling it how I see it.”
Lewis looks at me, stifling a laugh. “How can you stand to be around him?”
I grin. “He can be a bit much.”
Parker drapes his arm over my shoulder. “See. Onlya bitmuch.”
Lewis laughs. “Oh, man. You can take anything as a compliment.”
Parker motions ahead. “Why don’t you catch up with your girlfriend before she wanders away from the herd?”
Lewis quickens his pace toward Yvette, giving Parker and I space to talk.
“I told you not to worry about my friendship with Lewis,” Parker says. “Anytime we have an argument, I make sure it ends with a joke. We’ll be fine when this is all over.”
“But you’ve never fought over a girl before.”
Parker chucks my chin. “But, in the end, he’ll have you as a prize.”
A blush inflames my cheek. “Oh, um, I...”
“You’re so cute when you don’t know what to do with compliments.”
