I’m growling under my breath when I feel a hand slide over my shoulder. “Hey, there, Mr. Bourgeois,” a sultry voice purrs, way too close to my ear for comfort.

I step aside, trying to put some space between myself and my guest. “Hey, Meghan,” I greet the legal secretary currently running her manicured nails down my forearm.

“How’s your night panning out?”

“Pretty good,” I return, forcing a smile. “But that’s probably because I brought my beautiful girlfriend, Loren. Have you had the chance to meet her?”

She straightens and blinks away her surprise. After all, I hadn’t turned down her last offer. “Girlfriend?”

“Yeah, she’s great.” My smile becomes more genuine as I gesture in Loren’s direction. Then I hold up my phone when it buzzes again. “Sorry, I’ve gotta take this. But it was nice seeing you.”

I leave her with her jaw hanging and shuffle off to find a corner to continue texting my brother.
